Mark your calendars...our annual closing tradition, the potluck supper and auction, will take place on Saturday, May 4 this year. 

The Club will open at 430 pm to allow for set-up and drop-off of auction items. The evening schedule will look like this:

6:00 pm- Bar opens. Silent auction viewing and bidding begins.
7:00 pm- Potluck dinner.
8:45 pm- Silent auction bidding closes.
9:00 pm- Live auction begins.

As we did last season, only 'larger' items will be auctioned off live. Smaller items will be done through the silent auction. We found this worked much better last season.

This year, we would like to open the Club up to potential new members...so we are encouraging members who come to feel free to bring a friend. If friends are coming for the potluck, we would simply ask that everyone bring something to contribute. It would also be ok if friends just came for the auction portion of the evening. This is a great opportunity to allow people to have a look at the Club, and get a feel for our great atmosphere, if they have been considering trying curling.

For those that are new to the Club this year, and who aren't familiar with the evening and how it works, here's a primer:

  • The evening acts as both a way for us to properly close out the season with a great social time, as well as an opportunity to fundraise through the auction.
  • We ask for members to donate items, if they can, to either the silent auction or live auction. As examples, members in the past have donated goods, services, baked goods, dinners at the their houses, weekends at their cottages, etc. We encourage people to get creative.
  • We discourage people from using this as an opportunity to clean out their closets...no yard sale items, please and thanks!
  • If you are coming for the potluck, bring something to contribute, and also bring your own plates and cutlery if possible. Paper plates work well in this situation, and make for a much easier clean-up afterwards

Auction items can be dropped off at the Club this week, when the Club is open, if they are ready. Just put them in the office on the desk, marked as "closing auction". We will advertise additional times in the weeks ahead when items can be dropped off.

And, as a reminder, if anyone is donating any alcoholic items, such as homemade wine or beer, per our liquor licence, these items will have to be kept locked in the office until the auction is done. Just make up a sign to be placed on the auction table in the items place, so that people know what is being bid on.
